Station 5: Be a Bee. Students are given a tiny straw to represent the proboscis that a bee uses to suck up nectar from a flower. They will go around the room and find “flowers” with nectar and suck up a little to return to the main hive and deposit it in a cell (A plastic egg crate represents the cells in a hive) After about 7 minutes of the students going back and forth, the parent volunteer will stop the collection of the “nectar” and then explain from my prompt cards how many flowers a bee must visit to make honey. It is a very illustrative way of students getting the concept that it takes a LOT of bees to make even a teaspoon of honey. (10 minutes)
